Late Thursday night and early
Friday morning of December 9 and 10, the writers here at Second
Darkness honored the Lady Madurz (FreeFall) on her birthday at
Nobel Downs Palace, where Arch Mage Naja reigns supreme. Mage
himself put in an appearance at the party. Plots had been afoot
for days to keep the party a secret, and thanks to Hobbitness
and Lady Eowyn, the party was a total surprise to Lady Madurz.
For gifts, Master Baggins most
generously volunteered his blood for the lady to sip, and Lady
Eowyn gave a gift of black horses and 1/5 of the spring foals.
Amazing how generosity can be elicited under the threat of sword
and torture.
Lady Eowyn, in her full, rich
soprano voice, sang a solo in Rohirric to honor the occasion,
and it is amazing how well she can sing even when sober.
Fægen cennes to du
Fægen cennes to du
Fægen cennes léoft Madurz
Fægen cennes to du!
(Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Madurz
Happy birthday to you!)
Fægen cennes, Madurz of
Mordor, Hlæfdige of se Deorcland.
Micel glædnes ond gamen.... god néahtídes,
god fréondes ond god medu!
(Happy birthday, Madurz of
Mordor, Lady of the Dark Land.
Much happiness and joy...good times, good friends and good drink!)
Master Baggins was soon drunk
and singing Hobbit drinking songs off key. The evening went very
well though until Lady Eowyn pushed Master Baggins into one of
the large cakes and the party disintegrated into a riotous food
fight. Tempers began to flare when the Lady Eowyn, in the most
unladylike way, smeared cake in Master Baggins' hair and dumped
more cake down the back of his shirt. As the food flew through
the air, Lord Khamul fed the Lady Madurz pieces of cake from his
fingers and kissed the icing from her lips.
Master Baggins, most of his
clothing covered with fragments of food and completely drunk,
forgot his place and complained that there were no fireworks like
Gandalf provided at parties in the Shire. Lord Khamul, whose temper
had remained fairly steady during the evening, chanted three times
in Aduniac and fiery darts formed in the air, circled above and
then started plunging downward. Then, twisting and turning, glowing
brightly, like arrows they bombarded Master Baggins from behind.
Although several times during
the evening some participants were on the verge of drawing swords,
the only casualty of the evening was Master Baggins' charred clothing.
When Minas Morgul hosts a party,
you can expect one hell of a big night.
Happy
Birthday Again, Gothlob Dushgoi-ob!
